Mailwell 1.0 is here

A calm, fast Mac mail app for all your accounts.

Mailwell with an email from Luke open. The subject is hello, and it reads: This is the first email I sent from Mailwell. Thanks for being here for it.

I built Mailwell because I couldn't find what I wanted. I loved Mimestream when I was on Gmail. It felt like a real Mac app, quick and quiet and out of the way. But when I moved most of my mail to Fastmail, I wished it supported JMAP, or even IMAP.

I tried others like Spark, Superhuman and Edison. Some felt too busy, with features I'd never use. Others wanted my mail or my password on their servers, and I wasn't comfortable with that.

So I made the app I was looking for. Mailwell 1.0 is out today. It puts Gmail, iCloud, Fastmail, Kagi Mail, Microsoft 365 and any IMAP or JMAP account in one window, with one unified inbox.

What it does

Your mail stays on your Mac

There are no Mailwell servers. Your mail is stored on your Mac and syncs straight to your provider, so I never see it. The app has no analytics, and remote images (including tracking pixels) are blocked until you allow them.

AI is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, you can use Apple Intelligence or your own API key for summaries and rules in plain words. There's also a separate read-only switch that lets Claude search your mail through Mailwell.

Price

Mailwell is free for 7 days, and you don't need a card to try it. If it's not for you, just delete it. If it is, it's $5 a month or $49 a year, for up to 3 Macs. It needs macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon.

If you've got more than one account, or you left Gmail and miss Mimestream like I did, give it a try.

What's next

I make Mailwell on my own, and I think the roadmap should come from the people who use it every day. So the feedback board decides a lot of what comes next. If something's missing or broken, post it there or email [email protected].
